
Job Description
As a Fabricator at PWI, you play a key role in building structural components that support our products and projects. You will read and interpret shop drawings, perform welding and fabrication tasks, and ensure all work meets quality standards. Your work directly impacts production flow, job timelines, and the safety and reliability of our finished products.
Responsibilities
- Fabrication & Welding: Fabricate and assemble structural metal components using welding and shop equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and measurements to produce parts to specification.
- Production Quality & Completion: Complete assigned jobs on time while maintaining high-quality standards. Perform personal quality checks to ensure accuracy, appearance, and completeness before releasing work.
- Materials & Equipment Use: Inspect materials before use, operate fabrication equipment (drill press, ironworker, shear, torches, saws, forklift, overhead crane), and maintain an organized and safe work area. Report equipment issues or material concerns promptly.

Education or Experience
- Experience in steel MIG welding required
- 3+ years of custom steel welding experience preferred
- Experience reading blueprints or technical drawings preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Welding certifications preferred but not required
- Ability to be trained on shop equipment and processes
- Must be able to pass operating and written tests for overhead cranes and forklifts
Other Skills & Abilities
- Light computer skills preferred
Physical Abilities
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and use hands and fingers to handle or free objects.
- The use of common hand tools and occasionally sharp tools is involved.
- The employee frequently is required to talk, hear, and communicate with other employees both in person and while using a telephone.
- The employee must be able to move and/or lift objects up to 50 pounds often.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Cognitive and Communication Abilities
- Basic math skills for measurements and fabrication tasks
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

- Willing to work on-site at PWI in Nappanee, Indiana
