
Job Description
The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. You will collaborate with various departments to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement effective safety measures. Additionally, you will provide leadership, training, and support to promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Creating site-specific safety programs for installation projects and sitting in on pre-installation meetings to ensure compliance with project-specific safety requirements.
- Collaborate with team sales team to provide safety prequalification information and documentation to potential clients.
- Provide safety training and education programs for employees at all levels, including new hire orientation, ongoing training, and specialized training as needed.
- Create a safety committee program and lead regular meetings to discuss safety issues, initiatives, and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and assess risks in the workplace and on-site.
- Collaborate with department managers to develop and implement corrective action plans to address safety deficiencies.
- Develop emergency evacuation plans and procedures and conduct periodic drills
- Oversee fleet safety programs, including vehicle inspections, driver training, and accident investigation procedures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Assist in developing and implementing education and certification processes for specialized roles, such as CDL training, welding certifications, hoist inspectors, and CPR training.
- Facilitate the return-to-work process for employees recovering from work-related injuries by developing modified duty assignments and monitoring work restrictions.
- Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with external agencies, such as OSHA, EPA, and local authorities, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Stay informed about emerging safety trends, regulations, and technologies to continuously improve safety practices.
- Act as a liaison between management, employees, and regulatory agencies regarding safety matters.
- Will take the lead on environmental safety reporting.

Education or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Industrial Engineering, or related fieldis preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of previous experience within an industrial, manufacturing, or construction industryand using various heavy equipment and power tools.
- Minimum of 2 years in safety specific or education/training role.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Possess or able to obtain OSHA 10 and 30 certifications.
- Able to be certified in all safety policies including CPR, Forklift, Hoist & Crane, and Scissor Lift.
- Other safety certifications may be required for continued education and training.
Other Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Curriculum development and training/education experience
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, hazard identification, and risk assessments.
- Must be versed in use of Microsoft Excel and various data entry systems.
- Computer skills must be a plus.
- Experience with Fleet safety and DOT requirements is preferred.
Physical Abilities
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be required to stand, walk, climb, jump, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and use hands and fingers to handle or free objects.
- The use of common hand tools and occasionally sharp tools may be involved.
- The employee frequently is required to talk, hear, and communicate with other employeesboth in person and while using a telephone.
- The employee may be asked to move and/or lift objects up to 50 pounds at times.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Cognitive and Communication Abilities
- Able to perform basic math using money, weight, and distance measurements.
- Able to communicate and present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees in both verbal and written forms.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or blueprint form.
Location
- Willing to work on-site at PWI in Nappanee, Indiana
- Some regional travel is possible

Compensation
$65,000 – $80,000 annually plus annual profit-sharing bonus
Hours
7:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday through Friday although there is some flexibility on setting this schedule.
