Introduction
An RV manufacturer in Colorado, Lightship RV, recently made a big move – they relocated to a brand-new manufacturing facility to manufacture their next generation of RVs.
However, despite the upgraded space, their lifting equipment didn’t match the level of innovation they were aiming for. With only gantry cranes on casters, their team quickly realized they needed a more capable material handling system to keep up with the demand and support for their RVs.
This project spotlight explores how a custom crane solution from PWI helped them scale operations, improve safety, and improve their production.
The Problem: Limited Lifting in a New Facility
Their new facility did not have any overhead cranes. Instead, Lightship RV was relying on gantry cranes to move heavy components across the work area. While this setup may have worked temporarily, it was clear that it wasn’t enough for what they were needing for their RV models.
They needed a lifting system that could:
- Handle larger and more complex components
- Improve the safety and efficiency of their work area
- Keep production running efficiently
The Solution: Tailored Crane Systems for RV Production
PWI designed and installed various crane systems that fit their unique needs.
UltraLite Jib Cranes
These cranes provided localized lifting support, perfect for workstations where flexibility and repeated lifting are required.

UltraLite Ceiling-Mounted Cranes
These lightweight cranes offer smooth, ergonomic movement across various production zones, improving worker comfort and efficiency.

Monorail Crane
This crane allowed for linear transport of components along the assembly path, streamlining material flow from one station to the next.

To preserve the clean, modern appearance of the facility, all crane equipment was powder-coated white to match the building’s interior.
The Result: Smooth Operations and a Satisfied Team
Since the installation, Lightship RV has seen a noticeable improvement in their production workflow. Key outcomes include:
- Faster and safer lifting of RV components
- Improved ergonomic conditions for staff
- A system that supports both current and future production demands
They are pleased with the results and report that operations are running smoothly—allowing them to focus on manufacturing RVs without being held back by outdated equipment.
Conclusion
This project is a strong example of how custom crane systems can be built to serve not just the technical needs of a facility, but also its operational goals and design preferences. Whether you’re scaling up, building something new, or simply want to improve how your team works, the right lifting solution makes all the difference.
