Job Description

The Electrical Controls Specialist provides technical support to service technicians and clients, specializing in troubleshooting, maintaining, designing, and optimizing electrical and control systems. This role focuses on three-phase electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and control systems, ensuring the reliable operation of equipment and compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will combine extensive electrical knowledge with excellent problem-solving and communication skills to deliver timely, effective solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Support: Diagnose and resolve electrical and control issues, including interpreting wiring diagrams, troubleshooting three-phase systems, and assisting technicians with problem resolution while in the field.
  • System Analysis and Design: Design, evaluate, and improve electrical and control systems, updating designs and schematics as needed and writing operator’s manuals
  • Documentation and Training: Maintain records of technical issues and provide training to service technicians on electrical and control systems.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to safety standards, electrical codes, and company policies through inspections and audits.

Education or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and control circuits.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, VFDs, and automation components are a plus

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Certification in Electrical Systems or Controls (e.g., Electrical Journeyman, Certified Control Systems Technician) is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client sites as required.

Other Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and automation equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes (e.g., NEC) and compliance standards.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

Physical Abilities

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and use hands and fingers to handle or free objects.
  • Capability to work in varying environments, including confined spaces and elevated platforms and service in customer locations which may be hot and noisy.
  • The use of common hand tools and occasionally sharp tools are involved.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk, hear, and communicate with other employees both in person and while using a telephone.
  • The employee must be able to move and/or lift objects up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Cognitive and Communication Abilities

  • Able to perform basic math using money, weight, and distance measurements.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Able to communicate and present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees explaining technical concepts clearly to non-technical personnel in both verbal and written forms.

Location

  • Willing to work on-site at PWI in Nappanee, Indiana
  • May be asked to travel on occasion locally and nationally.

Compensation

$85,000 - $95,000 annual salary + profit sharing bonus
Range is an average wage. Compensation is largely dependent on experience.

Hours

6:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
